Today is the day for Lauren and Keenan!  As I sit here writing this blog, I am actually back in San Diego for the first time since my parents moved to Texas in June.  I could write a thousand words on my feelings about losing them and my childhood home, but I’ll save that post for another time and just say it feels a little surreal being here without them.  When Lauren contacted me last year about shooting their wedding I had no idea how our family’s situation would change in the following 10 months, and I definitely did not anticipate having to find a place to stay in San Diego for the first time!  Thankfully I have a family friend who has offered her home very generously, but the logistics have given me something to think about for future San Diego bookings..

Anyway, back to the good stuff.  If you recall, I wasn’t doing too well in January.  I was going through a hard time and my photography was one of the only distractions that could pull me out of my funk.  Lauren and Keenan’s engagement shoot was no exception; we met for one of the best afternoons I’d had in a while and I left feeling extremely grateful and excited for their wedding, though at the time it was so far away.  Lauren and Keenan are also the first couple I have ever “booked” without meeting first in person, which was a big deal for me.  I was nervous we might not click, or that they would be weird and our expectations would be mismatched, but I’m happy to report they are some of the loveliest clients I’ve ever had.  Lauren had a vision in mind for her engagement shoot–an urban theme to match their wedding venue in Logan Heights.  We walked around a tiny bit before ending our session with photos at Chicano Park.  Anyone who knows San Diego knows this hasn’t always been the safest or greatest area, but they have made changes recently which have improved the neighborhood and given me peace of mind about shooting down there.  The vibrant colors were so fun to play with, and you will see more of them in Lauren and Keenan’s wedding photos as they’ve become a central theme.  Please enjoy these photos from our afternoon together, and keep an eye on my instagram for wedding pictures from later today!
